Raleigh, NC – Gusty winds and a possible Memorial Day washout are in store for North Carolina as summer weather patterns settle in.

According to the National Weather Service, Raleigh will see breezy and sunny conditions Friday, with winds reaching up to 18 mph and a high near 75°F. It’s a calm start to the weekend, but don’t let the early sunshine fool you — rain chances increase significantly by Sunday night, with storms likely on Monday, Memorial Day.

By Saturday, temperatures rise to 78°F with mostly sunny skies, ideal for outdoor plans. Sunday follows suit early, topping out at 77°F before a chance of evening showers develops after 8 p.m. Memorial Day itself brings a 50% chance of storms during the day, with rain and possible thunderstorms continuing into Monday night. Temperatures will hover in the upper 70s throughout.

Residents planning travel on US-70 or I-40 should monitor road conditions as showers may reduce visibility and lead to slick pavement late Sunday and Monday. If you’re camping or attending outdoor events, have an alternate plan and secure tents or equipment against possible wind gusts and rain.

Looking ahead, Tuesday and Wednesday will likely remain wet, with shower chances at 60% and highs reaching the low 80s. Some clearing may follow midweek, but humidity and isolated showers could linger.

Stay weather-aware through Memorial Day. Additional alerts may be issued as storm timing becomes more certain.
