Thomasville, NC – Deputies in Davidson County arrested a man after a suspected cockfighting operation was uncovered. Authorities responded to a welfare check involving chickens on the 1000 block of Liberty Church Road.
Deputies arrived and found Rigoberto Vasquez-Ferrer actively cutting the comb and wattles off a game rooster. Investigators determined several other chickens suffered similar injuries. Deputies discovered direct evidence of cockfighting paraphernalia on-site.
Authorities arrested Vasquez-Ferrer and transported him to the Davidson County Magistrate’s Office. He faces six felony counts of animal cruelty and two misdemeanor charges for possessing cockfighting paraphernalia.
Sheriff’s officials stated that injuries found on the birds were consistent with illegal cockfighting preparations. Investigators will continue examining the case for possible additional charges.
