Lexington, NC – A Davidson County man has been arrested after investigators alleged he entered into multiple marriages with different women across North Carolina.

According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division began reviewing a bigamy complaint in April. Investigators reported that Harry Irvine Burdick Jr. held marriage licenses with three women, in Lincoln County, Davidson County and Guilford County. Deputies said they were unable to find any record of divorce filings before Burdick allegedly remarried.

Authorities charged Burdick on Friday, Aug. 22, with two counts of felony bigamy. Investigators alleged that both financial and personal gain were his motives.

Burdick was released on a written promise to appear in court, with his first appearance scheduled for Sept. 22 at the Davidson County Courthouse. Detectives said they believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone who suspects they may have been legally married to Burdick without a divorce to contact the sheriff’s office.

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
