Reidsville, NC – A 32-year-old Reidsville man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly leading deputies on a high-speed chase that reached speeds of more than 130 mph through the city.

According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit began around 3:44 p.m. on NC Highway 14 when a deputy spotted a black BMW matching the description of a vehicle involved in a prior hit-and-run. The deputy attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled, continuing through Reidsville before stopping at an apartment complex on Lesley Court.

Deputies said the suspect, identified as Allanti Marquan Broadnax, fled on foot after abandoning the vehicle. He was allegedly seen throwing a backpack as he ran. Authorities later discovered two small children inside the BMW. Both were unharmed and turned over to their mother with assistance from the Rockingham County Department of Social Services.

Broadnax was apprehended a short time later by Reidsville police officers at another apartment complex on Sherwood Drive. He faces multiple charges, including felony flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, felony possession of Schedule II controlled substances, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and distribute, misdemeanor child abuse, and marijuana possession, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials said Broadnax was issued a $1,000,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockingham County District Court on Sept. 10. He was also cited in connection to a prior hit-and-run investigated by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Reidsville Police Department, NC State Highway Patrol, and county social services for their assistance in the case.
