Wilmington, NC – Dangerous heat will continue to impact southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina today and into Monday. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for these areas, warning of heat index values reaching as high as 109°F by Monday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday evening, with a second advisory set to run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. The combination of high temperatures and oppressive humidity could cause heat-related illnesses, especially for those working or spending extended periods outdoors.

In Wilmington, heat indices are expected to reach 107°F through the evening, making it essential for residents to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. Additional areas, including Myrtle Beach, Florence, and Lumberton, will experience similar extreme conditions. Travelers should avoid unnecessary trips and be cautious on the roads, especially near coastal areas where humidity levels are particularly high.

As the heat wave continues, residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned environments, and wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing when outdoors. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent breaks in the shade for anyone working outside, and advises immediate action if symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke occur.

The heat advisory will expire at 8 p.m. Sunday but will return from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. Stay alert for further updates as more warnings may follow.
