Raleigh, NC – A brief window of light snow or rain is possible this morning across northern portions of the Piedmont and northern Coastal Plain, especially near the Virginia state line, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Raleigh.
Forecasters say that between sunrise and late morning, areas from Roxboro to Henderson to Roanoke Rapids hold the best chance of seeing a dusting (0.1 inch or more). Probabilities in these locations range from 40–70%, while the Triangle and areas farther south have only a slight chance of flakes mixing in. Most locations are expected to remain dry as the light precipitation weakens before pushing east.
According to the NWS, any snow that does fall should remain minimal, with no significant travel impacts expected. Cloudy skies are expected to persist through the afternoon.
Temperatures today will stay on the cool side, with highs in the low 40s across the northern tier—including Roxboro, Henderson, and Roanoke Rapids. The Triangle, Sandhills, and southern Piedmont will warm slightly, reaching the upper 40s to low 50s. Areas such as Fayetteville, Smithfield, Goldsboro, and Clinton should reach the lower 50s under mostly cloudy skies.
Forecasters note that the pattern remains quiet into the weekend, with seasonable temperatures and dry weather returning Saturday and Sunday.
Residents in northern counties are encouraged to monitor conditions through midday, particularly near the Virginia border where light snow may briefly reduce visibility.
