North Carolina Forecast Update: Summer Weather Alert in Charlotte with 97°F Highs and Storm Risk by 2 PM Tuesday

Charlotte, North Carolina – Blistering heat and scattered storms will hit Charlotte hard Tuesday, July 29, with peak temperatures near 97°F and heat indices topping 108°F by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for Mecklenburg County and surrounding areas from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Afternoon thunderstorms are also expected to develop after 2 p.m., with strong wind gusts, small hail, and locally heavy rain possible.

Storms could disrupt I-77 and I-85 corridors around Charlotte during the evening rush. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check cooling centers if air conditioning is unavailable. Keep mobile devices charged in case of isolated power outages.

Elsewhere across Upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina, heat and storms will affect cities like Spartanburg, Rock Hill, and Gastonia. While rainfall totals will be light, any storm that forms could turn severe quickly. Wind gusts over 40 mph are the main threat.
