RALEIGH, NC — Residents across Raleigh and the surrounding areas should prepare for patchy fog and scattered rain showers through Sunday. Expect disruptions for outdoor plans as New Year’s week approaches.
According to the National Weather Service, dense fog reduced visibility across Raleigh early Saturday, with a slight chance of rain in the morning. Scattered showers are forecast for Sunday, potentially intensifying into thunderstorms by the evening. Rainfall amounts may range from a quarter inch to three-quarters of an inch, especially in areas near the I-40 corridor. Gusty winds reaching up to 30 mph are also possible.
Travelers and commuters are advised to exercise caution due to limited visibility and slick road conditions. Be prepared for potential delays, particularly along I-40 and other major routes.
Sunday night will bring cooler temperatures, with a low of 51°F and more rain showers likely. As Monday approaches, skies will begin to clear, providing a sunny break with highs near 64°F. New Year’s Day is expected to be mostly sunny, with daytime temperatures in the mid-50s and a low near 34°F at night.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, there’s a 50% chance of rain showers in the afternoon. However, conditions will improve by midweek with partly sunny skies and cooler temperatures.
