Raleigh, N.C. – Creeks and streets across central North Carolina could flood by late Wednesday as a Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 a.m. Thursday, threatening the Piedmont and Sandhills with excessive runoff and flash flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, the Flood Watch runs from 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, through 2 a.m. Thursday, July 10. It covers areas including Greensboro, Durham, Raleigh, Fayetteville, and Lumberton. Regions that received heavy rain from Tropical Storm Chantal face a heightened risk of flash flooding, particularly in low-lying areas, creeks, and urban roadways.

Counties such as Wake, Cumberland, Guilford, Lee, and Moore are under close watch as moisture continues to push in. The NWS warns that rapid rises in water levels could make travel hazardous during the evening commute. Drivers should avoid flooded roads and have alternate routes ready.

Residents are urged to charge phones, monitor alerts, and prepare to act quickly if Flood Warnings are issued. This weather system may impact schools, businesses, and evening events across the Triangle and Sandhills regions.

The Flood Watch remains in place through early Thursday, and more alerts are possible if rainfall intensity increases.
