Raleigh, NC – A Flood Watch is in effect for Raleigh and central North Carolina from 2 a.m. Tuesday through Tuesday morning, with up to 4 inches of rain expected in some areas. As heavy rain continues to pour through the region, flash flooding could become a serious concern, especially in urban and low-lying areas. Drivers are urged to use caution on the roads tonight and tomorrow.
According to the National Weather Service, storm total rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are possible, with some localized areas seeing even higher totals. The worst conditions are expected late tonight through Tuesday morning. Rainfall could overwhelm drainage systems, leading to flash flooding in flood-prone areas. Flooding is likely to affect roadways and may make travel dangerous, particularly along I-40, I-85, and U.S. 64.
The National Weather Service warns that excessive runoff may result in the flooding of rivers, streams, and creeks, as well as urban locations with poor drainage. Raleigh and surrounding cities such as Durham, Chapel Hill, and Cary are all under alert. If you live in or near flood-prone areas, it’s vital to stay updated on weather changes and avoid unnecessary travel.
Looking ahead to the rest of the week, the threat of rain persists through Tuesday with a chance for thunderstorms. Temperatures will remain mild, with highs around 76°F on Monday and 79°F by Tuesday, but the rain is expected to ease up by Wednesday morning. Stay tuned for additional updates, as more warnings or advisories could be issued if conditions worsen.
