Raleigh, N.C. – Central North Carolina could see dangerous flash flooding and rising streams overnight as heavy rain moves in late Sunday, triggering a Flood Watch that lasts through early Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, rainfall totals between 2 and 4 inches are expected across the region, with localized amounts nearing 5 inches. The heaviest downpours are forecast to fall between late Sunday night and Tuesday morning, prompting concerns for low-lying areas, small creeks, and urban streets.

Counties including Wake, Durham, Guilford, Alamance, and Cumberland are under the watch, along with cities like Raleigh, Greensboro, and Fayetteville. River flooding and quick-developing flash floods are the main threats, especially near poor drainage areas and roads like I-40 and U.S. 1.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads, secure outdoor items, and monitor local alerts. Power outages are possible in flood-prone zones, and emergency kits should be ready in case conditions worsen overnight.

The Flood Watch remains in effect through Tuesday morning, and additional warnings or advisories could be issued as rainfall totals increase.
