Fayetteville, N.C. – Drivers across central North Carolina could face dangerous flooding through 8:45 p.m. Thursday as slow-moving storms dump heavy rain over Fayetteville, Fort Bragg, and surrounding areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a Flash Flood Warning is in effect for northern Cumberland, southeastern Harnett, southwestern Johnston, and northwestern Sampson counties. Doppler radar indicated up to 2.5 inches of rainfall by 5:38 p.m., with an additional inch possible before storms taper off tonight.

The warning affects key areas including Dunn, Benson, Erwin, Pope AFB, and Spivey’s Corner, where low-lying roads and underpasses could become impassable. Officials urge residents to avoid travel unless necessary and never drive through flooded streets. Flash flooding has already begun in parts of the region, impacting both urban neighborhoods and rural creeks.

This is the second flood alert for the region in less than a week, as saturated ground heightens runoff risks. Residents should monitor emergency updates and prepare for sudden road closures or detours.

Warnings remain in effect through at least 8:45 p.m., with additional advisories possible if storms persist or intensify.
