Raleigh, NC – Dry conditions and gusty winds have prompted an Increased Fire Danger warning across portions of central North Carolina today. Officials are urging residents to avoid outdoor burning as low humidity and breezy conditions elevate wildfire risks.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Raleigh, the warning is in effect Thursday, March 20, with the greatest risk in the Coastal Plain from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and in the western Piedmont from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.. The affected areas are highlighted in yellow on the fire danger map.

Forecasters warn that relative humidity as low as 30%, combined with dry fuels and winds of 15-20 mph, gusting up to 35 mph, will create conditions where fires can spread rapidly. Residents are urged to use extreme caution and follow local burn restrictions.

While no official burn ban is in place, authorities strongly discourage outdoor burning today. Stay updated through NWS Raleigh for further advisories.
