Raleigh, NC – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh has issued a Special Weather Statement warning of increased fire danger across western and central North Carolina, including the Piedmont and Sandhills regions, through Wednesday evening.

According to the NWS, very dry conditions combined with low afternoon humidity levels will create an elevated risk of wildfires. Winds will strengthen in the afternoon, with occasional gusts reaching 15 to 20 mph, further increasing the fire hazard.

The affected areas include major cities such as Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Fayetteville, as well as surrounding counties including Person, Forsyth, Guilford, Alamance, and Wake.

Residents are strongly advised to avoid outdoor burning during this period. If burning is necessary, extreme caution should be exercised. Fire suppression tools should be kept readily available, and all smoking materials should be fully extinguished and properly disposed of to prevent accidental ignition.

These conditions are expected to persist until later this evening, when humidity levels may rise, reducing fire risks. Authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and report any signs of wildfire immediately.
