Beaufort, NC – Sunshine continues across Carteret County this Tuesday, but forecasters say a shift is on the way as midweek rain edges closer. Warm, calm conditions today will give way to a breezy and cooler pattern by Thursday, signaling the first taste of true fall weather along the North Carolina coast.

According to the National Weather Service, residents in Newport, Morehead City, and nearby coastal routes including U.S. Highway 70 should prepare for scattered showers starting Wednesday afternoon. A cold front sweeping inland could bring gusts near 25 mph and localized ponding on roads by Thursday morning. Drivers and outdoor workers are advised to plan ahead for slick conditions and reduced visibility.

Wednesday’s high will reach around 83°F, dropping to the low 60s by night. Thursday turns partly sunny but breezier, with winds up to 26 mph. By Friday and Saturday, expect a cooler pattern—highs in the mid-70s and lows dipping near 60°F—ideal for pumpkin patch visits or early Halloween decorating.

Sunday offers a calmer, sunny finish to the week with temperatures near 73°F, closing out a classic early-October stretch across coastal North Carolina.
