Raleigh, NC – A blast of extreme heat is set to scorch much of North Carolina through the weekend, with dangerously high temperatures expected to push the heat index up to 115°F. This intense heat wave is set to last from 11 AM today until 8 PM Sunday, affecting both central and eastern parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning covers multiple counties including Durham, Wake, Cumberland, Wilson, and many others. The high humidity combined with soaring temperatures will significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Residents across central North Carolina, including the Triangle area (Raleigh-Durham) and the coastal regions of Wilmington, are urged to stay indoors, especially during peak afternoon hours. Local authorities recommend frequent hydration, limiting outdoor activities, and checking in on vulnerable individuals like the elderly or those without air conditioning.

In addition to safety concerns, individuals working outside are advised to take regular breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces to avoid heat stress. Anyone feeling overwhelmed by the heat should immediately seek cool shelter and seek medical attention if necessary.

This heat wave is expected to subside Sunday evening, but the extreme temperatures mean additional heat advisories may follow. Make sure to stay informed and prepared for the continued high heat.
