Lexington, NC – A traffic stop in Lexington led to a major drug bust Friday that authorities say uncovered more than $136,000 worth of illegal narcotics, including methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin.

According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, detectives with the Lexington Police Department, Davidson County Vice Narcotics Unit, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation stopped a vehicle driven by Kevin Maurice Hargrave, 45, of Lexington. During the stop, deputies allegedly seized about 10 pounds of methamphetamine.

Following the arrest, investigators executed a search warrant at Hargrave’s residence on Price Road, where they reported finding an additional ounce of cocaine, eight grams of heroin, an AR-15 rifle, and a handgun.

Authorities said Hargrave is facing multiple felony charges, including two counts of trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking heroin, possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, and possession of methamphetamine with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver cocaine. Additional charges include maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The sheriff’s office confirmed Hargrave is being held in the Davidson County Detention Center on a $1.1 million secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Davidson County District Court on Sept. 12.

Law enforcement officials said the bust underscores the dangers of methamphetamine and other stimulants. In 2024, federal data showed nearly 37,100 deaths nationwide linked to stimulant overdoses such as methamphetamine. Authorities said the distribution of such drugs can lead to widespread consequences for individuals and families, including financial hardship and broken relationships.
