As high wind gusts and flood warnings persist, residents and travelers along North Carolina’s Outer Banks are urged to exercise caution, especially along NC-12 and other coastal roads. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that wind gusts could reach up to 50 mph through this morning, creating hazardous conditions for drivers and posing risks for high-profile vehicles.
According to the NWS Newport/Morehead City office, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday, with the highest wind impact centered along the Outer Banks and nearby coastlines. Strong winds and high tides may cause minor to moderate flooding in vulnerable low-lying areas, so those in affected zones should prepare for potential road closures and plan alternate routes where possible.
Saturday and Sunday Outlook
After today’s windy start, Saturday is expected to bring calmer, sunnier weather. Highs will reach around 65°F, with north winds tapering to 6-11 mph by afternoon, reducing flood risks and enhancing road safety. Skies will clear into Saturday night, and temperatures will drop to around 40°F, providing a cool but calm evening.
Sunday will remain sunny with a high near 67°F and light winds, offering an ideal day for any outdoor plans or travel along the coast.
Extended Five-Day Forecast
• Monday: Sunny, high around 70°F, light winds.
• Tuesday: Mostly sunny, high near 72°F, mild temperatures.
• Wednesday: Partly sunny with a high around 73°F.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to monitor local advisories and use caution until winds subside and floodwaters recede. For continuous updates, visit the NWS website and follow their social media channels.
