Wilmington, NC – Hazardous marine and surf conditions are expected along North Carolina’s coastal areas through Friday, as Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect for regions south of Murrells Inlet, extending northward with watches in place to Surf City. The National Weather Service reports breezy and cool conditions persisting today, along with increasing cloud cover.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Wilmington, the tropical system will bring strong winds and high surf, especially impacting coastal highways like U.S. Route 17. Beachgoers and boaters should exercise caution due to potential storm surges and rough waters. Surfing and swimming are strongly discouraged due to life-threatening rip currents, which could intensify by Thursday.

Today, Wilmington will experience partly sunny skies, with a high near 77 degrees, and winds from the north at 6-9 mph. Cloud cover will increase tonight, bringing cooler temperatures, with lows around 59 degrees. Breezy weather will dominate Thursday, with gusts reaching up to 18 mph as temperatures drop to a low of 46-51 degrees by nightfall.

Looking ahead to Friday, expect continued breezy but sunny conditions with temperatures ranging from 71-74 degrees. For residents and visitors, it’s essential to stay updated with official weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel near the coast. Mariners, particularly along the Cape Fear River and offshore, are urged to heed small craft warnings in effect.

Saturday and Sunday promise clearer skies and warmer temperatures, with highs near 80 degrees, offering a welcome relief after the storm passes.
