Wilkesboro, NC – Dry air and gusty winds are setting the stage for dangerous fire conditions across the North Carolina Piedmont on Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, VA, humidity levels are expected to drop between 20% and 25% from late morning through early evening, combining with wind gusts of 15 to 20 mph. These factors, along with increasingly dry ground fuels, significantly raise the risk of fires spreading quickly and unpredictably.

Counties under the fire danger advisory include Surry, Stokes, Rockingham, Caswell, Wilkes, and Yadkin. Cities such as Eden, Dobson, Danbury, and Wilkesboro are expected to be impacted.

Residents are strongly advised to avoid any outdoor burning during this period. If burning is necessary, officials recommend using extreme caution, ensuring water sources and fire suppression tools are on hand. All smoking materials should be fully extinguished and discarded properly to prevent accidental ignition.

Authorities also remind residents to check with local permitting offices for outdoor burn restrictions in place for Wednesday.

This advisory follows seasonal patterns where springtime dryness and gusts elevate wildfire risks in the region. Officials continue to monitor conditions closely and may update guidance as needed.
