Wilmington, NC — North Carolina residents are on high alert as Tropical Cyclone Debby approaches the Southeast region, bringing with it a slew of weather warnings and advisories. As of Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington has issued multiple warnings across Southeast North Carolina, including flash flood warnings, storm surge warnings, and tropical storm warnings.
According to the NWS, Debby is expected to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and dangerous storm surges. The areas most at risk include Wilmington, Whiteville, and surrounding coastal regions. The NWS advises residents in these areas to prepare for potentially life-threatening conditions, including flash flooding and significant storm surges that could inundate low-lying areas.
The forecast shows that the storm could bring up to 6-10 inches of rain, with localized amounts possibly exceeding 12 inches, particularly along the coast. In addition to heavy rainfall, strong winds with gusts up to 60 mph are expected, increasing the risk of downed trees and power outages.
