North Carolina Braces for Severe Weather: Hail, Damaging Winds, and 6” Rainfall Expected

Newport, NC – North Carolina residents are urged to prepare for severe weather today as thunderstorms, potentially bringing damaging wind gusts, large hail, and torrential downpours, are expected to develop in the afternoon and evening.

According to the US National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City, the strongest storms could produce wind gusts capable of causing significant damage, along with large hail. Rainfall amounts are expected to range from 3 to 6 inches in some areas, raising the risk of flash flooding.

A high rip current risk is also in effect for areas south of Cape Hatteras. New Bern and Manteo are forecasted to reach highs of 90°F and 86°F, respectively, with an 85% chance of thunderstorms. Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas should take necessary precautions and stay informed through weather updates.
