The National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh has increased the coverage and risk of these storms, highlighting the potential for damaging winds and excessive lightning.

According to the NWS, the thunderstorms will develop across the NC mountains and move into the western Piedmont/Triad area. Another cluster is expected to develop and move northeast across the southern Piedmont, Sandhills, and Coastal Plain, extending into the Triangle area. The most severe weather is anticipated between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., with the primary threat being damaging winds exceeding 60 mph and significant lightning.

Residents are advised to stay indoors during this period and secure any outdoor objects that could be blown away by strong winds. The storms pose a risk to life and property, particularly in areas already prone to severe weather.
