Raleigh, NC – A stormy weekend will give way to an Arctic blast early next week, bringing sharp temperature drops and winter hazards.
According to the National Weather Service, heavy rain and strong winds will impact central North Carolina on Sunday, with gusts up to 45 mph. Thunderstorms are possible in the morning, followed by showers throughout the day. A marginal risk for severe storms exists, mainly along the US-1 corridor.
On Monday, clear skies return, but temperatures will plunge as Arctic air sweeps across the region. Lows will drop into the 20s by Monday night, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Tuesday will remain sunny but chilly, with highs in the low 50s.
By midweek, a second system will bring rain and possible wintry precipitation. Wednesday night could see freezing rain and sleet, making travel hazardous. The highest risk for snow and ice will be in the northern Piedmont.
Residents should prepare for rapidly changing conditions and take precautions against icy roads and strong winds. Stay updated with the latest weather alerts and plan accordingly.
