Raleigh, NC – Residents of central North Carolina should prepare for a sharp drop in temperatures early next week, as dangerously cold wind chills are expected to arrive Monday and persist through midweek. Forecasters predict sub-freezing temperatures and biting winds could pose risks for outdoor activities and unprotected individuals.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh, Monday’s high will only reach 32°F, with wind chills plunging as low as 15°F. Overnight lows Monday and Tuesday will drop to 15°F or lower, making it vital for residents to take precautions. Emergency officials advise layering clothing, covering exposed skin, and checking on vulnerable neighbors to prevent cold-related injuries.
Before the Arctic blast arrives, milder weather will dominate. Friday will see sunny skies and a high of 51°F with light winds. Rain becomes likely on Saturday, with a 70% chance of precipitation and highs in the mid-40s. Sunday will remain cloudy, with a 50% chance of rain and a high of 48°F.
Temperatures will plummet late Sunday night into Monday morning as the cold front moves in. The NWS warns that the prolonged sub-freezing conditions may lead to icy roadways and stressed heating systems. Drivers should use caution, especially on I-40 and other major routes, and ensure vehicles are prepared for the extreme cold.
Residents are urged to stay informed through local updates and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure. Prepare now by insulating pipes, securing outdoor pets, and stocking up on emergency supplies.
