Morehead City, NC – Arctic air is surging into Eastern North Carolina this weekend, bringing freezing temperatures and widespread lows in the teens. Residents are urged to take precautions as the coldest weather of the season settles in by Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service, overnight lows will dip to 21 degrees on Saturday and as low as 17 degrees by Sunday. Highs on Saturday are forecast around 40 degrees, falling further to only 38 degrees on Sunday. These frigid conditions may pose risks to unprepared homes, pets, and vulnerable residents.
Locals are encouraged to insulate pipes, check on elderly neighbors, and ensure pets have adequate shelter. The weekend will start with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 40s on Friday, but conditions will turn sharply colder after sunset.
Drivers should also remain cautious as dense fog remains an issue Thursday morning, with visibility dropping below a mile. If traveling, use headlights and maintain a safe following distance. Winds from the northwest will increase slightly by Friday night, amplifying the chill.
Looking ahead, temperatures will begin to rebound Monday, with highs climbing back to the mid-40s before reaching the 50s by midweek. However, residents should prepare for frosty overnight conditions throughout the weekend.
