Raleigh, NC – Frigid conditions will grip North Carolina Sunday night as temperatures drop to the low 20s under clear skies. The cold will ease slightly Monday with sunshine and highs in the low 40s, bringing some relief ahead of Christmas week.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), calm winds and cloudless skies will result in a sharp temperature drop overnight. Residents should ensure pets and plants are brought indoors and leave faucets dripping to prevent frozen pipes. Frost is expected early Monday morning, creating potentially slippery conditions on sidewalks and bridges.

Monday’s forecast calls for sunny skies, light northeast winds, and a high of 41 degrees. Monday night temperatures will dip to the low 30s, with increasing clouds as a weak storm system approaches. By Tuesday, rain showers may develop, with a 30% chance of precipitation mainly after 10 a.m. Highs will reach the mid-40s before clearing overnight.

Christmas Day looks pleasant, with partly sunny skies and a high near 51 degrees. A warmer trend continues into Wednesday and Thursday, with highs climbing to the upper 50s and low 60s.

Drivers traveling for the holiday should monitor the forecast closely, as rain showers are likely by Friday into Saturday. Keep updated on weather changes and take precautions to stay safe during freezing conditions.
