Fort Worth, Texas – Severe thunderstorms could disrupt Memorial Day travel and celebrations across North and Central Texas as strong storms develop along a stalled front Monday afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the initial round of morning storms will shift southeast, but new thunderstorms may redevelop by mid-afternoon and intensify through the evening. Areas from Cisco to DFW, Waco, and as far east as Palestine could see isolated severe cells with large hail, damaging wind gusts, and intense lightning.
Cities such as Sherman, Canton, and Killeen are also under threat for scattered strong storms, with the greatest coverage expected between 6 p.m. and midnight. The NWS notes that rainfall may be heavy enough to cause localized flash flooding, especially in urban areas or along low-lying roads.
Travelers are urged to monitor road conditions, delay non-essential evening travel, and remain indoors if storms approach. Outdoor Memorial Day plans should be reconsidered, particularly in areas marked for severe weather.
The threat continues into early Tuesday morning for parts of Central Texas. Additional watches or warnings may be issued later today.
