Atlanta, GA – A Freeze Warning remains in effect for much of north and central Georgia through 10 a.m. Monday, with another warning beginning 7 p.m. Monday through 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.
The warnings cover Atlanta, Athens, Macon, Rome, and surrounding counties, as temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 20s to low 30s, with gusty northwest winds up to 35 mph. The combination of cold air and wind will create wind chills near 20°F, marking the coldest air of the season so far for Georgia.
Forecasters say a hard freeze is likely across elevated areas in northeast Georgia, while frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and sensitive plants and damage unprotected plumbing. Residents are urged to wrap or drain outdoor pipes, bring pets inside, and cover plants overnight.
The Hazardous Weather Outlook notes that winds will ease slightly by Tuesday afternoon, but cold air will linger until midweek before highs rebound into the 60s by Wednesday.
