Atlanta, Georgia – Flash flooding is a growing threat across north and central Georgia today as multiple waves of heavy rain drench the region through 8 p.m. Tuesday. Localized rainfall totals could reach up to 6 inches in some areas, prompting a Flood Watch that stretches from Rome to Dublin and includes the entire Atlanta metro.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, most areas can expect 1 to 3 inches of rainfall, but stronger cells could produce much higher localized amounts. Low-lying areas, creeks, and urban streets are at greatest risk for rapid flooding.

Metro cities like Gainesville, Athens, and Newnan are already under alert, with emergency officials urging residents to avoid flooded roadways and prepare for possible power outages. Travel delays and disruptions to public transit are likely this afternoon as rain intensifies.

Drivers are advised to reroute around flood-prone intersections and monitor real-time alerts. “Turn around, don’t drown,” remains the warning as fast-moving water poses a serious hazard to anyone on the roads.

The Flood Watch is expected to remain active until 8 p.m. Tuesday, though further advisories may follow depending on rainfall trends.
