Huntsville, AL – The Tennessee Valley will enjoy another dry and seasonably cool day Wednesday before a Gulf system brings increasing clouds and rain chances later in the week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Huntsville.
Forecasters report that dry air will remain in place through Wednesday night, keeping skies mostly clear and temperatures cold overnight, with lows dropping into the upper 20s and lower 30s. Highs on Wednesday will reach between 46 and 51 degrees, offering a brief window of sunshine before conditions turn unsettled again.
According to NWS meteorologists, a low-pressure system forming over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico will move eastward on Thursday, spreading clouds and light rain chances across northern Alabama and southern Tennessee. The likelihood of rain increases to 20–30% Thursday, rising to 40–70% Friday as the system tracks inland.
By Friday and Saturday, scattered showers are expected to persist, keeping daytime highs in the mid-40s to near 50 and nighttime lows between 33 and 40 degrees. The NWS notes that no severe weather is expected with this system, but wet roads and cooler temperatures could make for a damp start to the weekend.
Unsettled conditions should linger into Saturday before drier air returns late in the weekend.
Residents across Huntsville, Decatur, Florence, and Scottsboro are encouraged to keep an eye on updated forecasts as the Gulf system approaches.
