A frosty haze clings to the valleys and lowlands around Huntsville, Alabama, this morning as freezing fog settles across the region. Headlights pierce through the pale mist, glinting off a thin layer of ice that has formed on bridges, windshields, and grassy surfaces.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a Freezing Fog Advisory until 9 a.m. CST for Madison, Marshall, Jackson, and DeKalb counties in Alabama and Franklin, Lincoln, and Moore counties in Tennessee. Visibility could drop below a quarter mile, especially near lakes, hollows, and open fields where cold air pools.

Motorists are urged to slow down and use low beams when traveling on I-65, I-565, and U.S. 72, where slick patches may form on overpasses and shaded roads. Even a thin glaze of ice can cause sudden loss of traction, particularly in early daylight when temperatures linger around 28°F.

By late morning, sunshine should break through the fog, bringing a milder afternoon near 51°F. Monday will remain partly cloudy and cool, followed by bright, crisp days Tuesday through Thursday with highs in the low- to mid-50s. Nights will stay cold, dipping near or below freezing much of the week.

Meteorologists note that another cold push is likely between December 11–17, possibly reintroducing frost and light wintry precipitation across parts of the Tennessee Valley and into the Ohio Valley.

Five-Day Outlook (Huntsville, AL):

  • Monday: Mostly cloudy, high 46°F, low 29°F.
  • Tuesday: Sunny, high 52°F, low 38°F.
  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high 57°F, low 40°F.
  • Thursday: 40% chance of showers, high 58°F, low 37°F.
