Huntsville, AL – After a warm, mostly sunny start to the weekend, Huntsville residents should prepare for increasing chances of thunderstorms beginning Sunday afternoon and lasting through early next week. Skies stay clear and comfortable today and Saturday, but muggy conditions and scattered showers are set to return by Sunday, threatening outdoor plans across Madison County.

According to the National Weather Service, a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after 1 p.m. Sunday, increasing to 40 percent Monday afternoon and up to 50 percent on Tuesday. The highest threat for downpours and brief gusty winds comes late Monday into Tuesday, impacting drivers on US-231, I-565, and local routes around the city. Most rain will fall in short bursts, but ponding is possible in low-lying neighborhoods and intersections during heavier showers. Power outages are unlikely, but residents should monitor alerts and be ready to adjust plans as storms approach.

Sunny skies Friday and Saturday offer a final window for back-to-school shopping, lake trips, or local events before storms return. If you’re headed outside, early mornings and evenings will be the most comfortable, with highs near 90°F and mild southeast breezes. Thunderstorms may repeat into midweek, so keep mobile devices charged and avoid unnecessary travel during peak rain.

Storm chances linger into Wednesday, with another update expected as new advisories are issued.
