Huntsville, AL – The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, has placed portions of North Alabama under a Tornado Watch (No. 635) effective until 10 p.m. CST Friday.
The watch includes Jackson, Lauderdale, Limestone, and Madison Counties, covering cities such as Huntsville, Athens, and Florence. Forecasters say severe thunderstorms this evening could produce tornadoes, damaging winds up to 70 mph, and large hail as a powerful cold front moves through the Tennessee Valley.
Residents are urged to remain alert, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and move to shelter immediately if a Tornado Warning is issued. Those in mobile homes or temporary structures should relocate to sturdy buildings ahead of worsening weather conditions.
The Storm Prediction Center emphasizes that storms could develop quickly after sunset, heightening overnight risks. Motorists and evening travelers are encouraged to stay tuned to local weather updates and avoid driving during severe conditions.
