Widespread rain is expected across Huntsville and the Tennessee Valley today, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, with rain chances ranging from 70 to 100 percent throughout the day. While showers will be common, the risk for thunderstorms remains low, with only a 20 to 25 percent chance for storms later this afternoon.

Forecasters are closely monitoring a very low potential for a few strong storms, but widespread severe weather is not expected. If storms do develop, the primary concern would be gusty to locally damaging winds, rather than hail or tornadoes. Most locations will simply experience periods of steady rain, occasional heavier downpours, and overcast skies.

High temperatures today will range from the mid-50s to lower 60s, keeping conditions cool and damp. Shower and thunderstorm activity will gradually come to an end tonight, allowing drier air to move in behind the system.

By Friday, conditions turn noticeably cooler and dry, with highs dropping into the lower to mid-40s and overnight lows falling into the upper 20s to mid-30s. This brief cool-down marks the start of a dry stretch that will last through Saturday, bringing more stable weather and improving travel conditions.

Looking ahead to the weekend and early next week, rain chances return in a limited, off-and-on fashion, but no widespread soaking rainfall is expected. Temperatures will begin a gradual warming trend, with highs climbing back into the 50s and eventually near 60 degrees by early next week.

Residents across Huntsville and north Alabama should remain weather-aware today, especially during the afternoon hours, but can look forward to quieter conditions tonight and a pleasant, dry weekend overall.
