Norfolk, Virginia – Cooler-than-normal temperatures and widespread rain are expected across Virginia today, with areas like South Hill and Emporia at risk for heavier downpours by the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, light to moderate rain showers will persist throughout Wednesday across most of central and eastern Virginia, keeping high temperatures in the low to mid-70s inland, and near 80 along the coast. While most areas will see consistent light rain, heavier pockets are possible in the southwest, particularly near the I-85 corridor.

Cities like Richmond (74°F), Farmville (71°F), and Petersburg (74°F) will remain under thick cloud cover with rain lingering through the evening commute. Eastern coastal cities including Norfolk (81°F) and Elizabeth City (82°F) may see slightly warmer highs but with the same persistent wet conditions.

Travelers should expect reduced visibility, wet roads, and minor ponding in low-lying areas. Residents are encouraged to use headlights when driving and check for updates if heading toward flood-prone areas later this week.

While tidal flooding is not expected Wednesday, forecasters warn of rising water levels Thursday into Friday, with nuisance to minor coastal flooding possible in parts of Tidewater.
