Wakefield, Virginia — Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible across parts of southeast Virginia and northeast North Carolina Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a weak cold front will move through the region Sunday afternoon and evening, bringing the best storm chances across southern Virginia and northeast North Carolina.
Forecasters say a few storms could become strong, with gusty winds and small hail possible.
Outside of rain, skies are expected to remain mostly cloudy with warm temperatures reaching the mid to upper 70s.
Conditions will turn mostly dry and mild Monday, though an isolated afternoon shower cannot be ruled out.
Temperatures are expected to rise well above average Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs potentially reaching the 80s across much of the region.
Meteorologists say these warmer conditions could challenge daily temperature records in some locations.
A stronger cold front is expected Thursday, bringing widespread showers and isolated storms, along with temperatures that fall during the day as cooler air moves in.
By Friday, seasonably cool but generally pleasant weather is expected across the region heading into the weekend.
Students, commuters, and travelers across southeast Virginia and coastal North Carolina may want to monitor forecast updates later this week as the stronger cold front approaches.
