Washington, D.C. – NOAA is marking the 20th anniversary of its Arctic Report Card with a global call to photographers and videographers, launching a special Photo & Video Contest aimed at capturing the breathtaking beauty and unique cultures of the Arctic.

According to NOAA’s Global Ocean Monitoring and Observing Arctic Research Program, the contest is open to entrants worldwide, ages 13 and up, and invites compelling visual stories that showcase Arctic people, landscapes, wildlife, communities, and scientific research. Submissions can also highlight economic activities on land and sea, regional weather, and the impacts of a rapidly changing Arctic climate.

The Arctic matters not just to those living within its borders, but to the entire planet. With thousands of years of Indigenous knowledge and its powerful influence on global climate and marine ecosystems, the Arctic’s role as a sentinel of environmental change has never been more vital. NOAA’s contest aims to raise awareness of the region’s significance—from its rich biodiversity to its cultural traditions and ongoing scientific discoveries.

A multidisciplinary panel will select winning entries, which will be featured in the 2025 Arctic Report Card and across NOAA’s platforms. The 2025 Arctic Report Card is set for release in December.

Photographers and videographers interested in sharing their Arctic stories can find full contest details and submission guidelines at globalocean.noaa.gov/coming-soon-the-2025-arctic-report-card
