Buffalo, NY – Western and north-central New York will see a mix of weather concerns Saturday, with dangerous swimming conditions along Lake Ontario and the risk of frost across the North Country tonight.
According to the National Weather Service Buffalo, a Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect today for the beaches of Niagara, Orleans, and Monroe counties. Wave forecasts show heights reaching up to 4 feet from Niagara River to Irondequoit Bay, creating strong currents and rip conditions. Residents are urged to stay out of the water, as hazardous swimming conditions will persist through this evening.
Inland, fair and dry conditions are expected for most of Saturday, with afternoon highs in the low to mid-70s. However, a Frost Advisory is in place for Jefferson and Lewis counties from midnight through Sunday morning. Low temperatures dipping into the 30s may bring the first frost of the season to parts of the Tug Hill Plateau and surrounding valleys.
The weather service advises gardeners and growers in frost-prone areas to protect sensitive plants overnight. Meanwhile, boaters on Lake Ontario should note a Small Craft Advisory, in effect through 11 p.m. Saturday, due to elevated wave activity.
Residents across western and north-central New York can expect generally sunny skies today, followed by cooler conditions overnight as high pressure settles into the region.
