Newfane, NY – A 74-year-old woman died Thursday evening following a single-vehicle crash on Lockport-Olcott Road near Hatter Road in the Town of Newfane, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to the scene around 7:13 p.m. on October 16, 2025, after reports that a driver was unresponsive and not breathing. Responders from the Miller Hose Volunteer Fire Company and sheriff’s deputies began life-saving measures, including the use of an AED. The woman was taken to Lockport Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
According to the sheriff’s report, the driver was operating a 2014 Chevrolet southbound when her vehicle gradually drifted east across the northbound lane, leaving the roadway and striking a tree near Corwin Cemetery. The vehicle sustained only minor damage, and investigators believe the driver may have experienced a medical emergency before the crash.
The woman was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and her name is being withheld pending notification of family. The investigation remains ongoing.
