Kentland, IN – An 86-year-old Kentland man died following a two-vehicle crash at US 24 and CR 700 W Wednesday afternoon.
Newton County Sheriff’s Office reported the crash occurred at approximately 4 p.m. when the northbound Chevrolet pickup disregarded a stop sign. Upon entering the intersection, the pickup collided with a westbound semi-tractor and trailer driven by Eric Pace, 36, of Sharon, Tennessee.
The pickup driver, Edward Eason, was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Pace, the semi’s driver, was unharmed and declined medical treatment at the scene.
Sheriff’s deputies, along with Kentland Police and emergency services, secured the scene and conducted an investigation led by Deputy Kaleb Sanders. The Newton County 911 Communications Center and multiple agencies, including the Iroquois County Coroner and Illinois State Police, assisted.
This tragic incident underscores the importance of caution at intersections, especially during busy travel hours.
