Morehead City, North Carolina – Sunshine and cool air are setting the tone across eastern North Carolina today as high pressure builds in, delivering clear skies, light north winds, and temperatures that stay on the cool side before a steady warm-up takes hold this week.

According to the National Weather Service office in Newport/Morehead City, high pressure will dominate today’s weather pattern, keeping conditions dry and bright. Afternoon highs will range from the mid to upper 40s along the Outer Banks to the lower 50s inland, including Greenville, Kinston, and Jacksonville. Coastal communities such as Morehead City and Beaufort will remain cooler thanks to lingering marine influence.

The cool start won’t last long. Temperatures are expected to climb steadily through the workweek as the high shifts offshore, allowing milder air to move in. By midweek, highs are projected to reach the 60s and possibly the low 70s across inland eastern North Carolina, with coastal areas not far behind. Overnight lows will also moderate, reducing any chill by morning.

Dry weather is expected to persist through much of the week, offering favorable conditions for travel, outdoor work, and marine operations. Light winds and calm seas today will also benefit boating interests.

This warming trend is expected to continue until later in the week, when the next weather system approaches and rain chances may increase. Residents should stay tuned for updated outlooks as conditions evolve.
