Newark, NY – A series of Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect across Western and Central New York, with lake-effect snow expected to impact travel through tonight and into Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, Wayne and Northern Cayuga counties will enter a new Winter Weather Advisory at 4 p.m. today, lasting until 10 a.m. Tuesday. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected in the most persistent bands, primarily across far eastern Wayne County and northern Cayuga County. Wind gusts up to 35 mph may produce pockets of blowing snow in open areas, reducing visibility at times.

Farther north, Lewis County remains under a Winter Weather Advisory until 7 p.m. Monday. An additional 1 to 3 inches are forecast, mainly across the higher terrain of the Tug Hill Plateau and the western slopes of the Adirondacks. Lower elevations are expected to see minimal accumulation.

Across Western New York, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties will remain under an advisory until 1 p.m. Monday. Another 2 to 4 inches are likely in the higher terrain inland from Lake Erie, while areas closer to the lake—including the NYS Thruway corridor—will see little accumulation.

The NWS warns that lake-effect snow will fall in narrow, shifting bands that can rapidly change conditions over short distances. Drivers may encounter sudden whiteouts followed by clearer patches within minutes.

Roads may become snow-covered and slippery, especially during the Monday evening commute and again Tuesday morning in Wayne and Cayuga counties. Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.

Snow reports can be submitted through the NWS Buffalo website or social media.
