Binghamton, NY – Temperatures are rising back into the 70s and 80s across Central New York today as a frontal system moves into the region, bringing periods of rain and isolated thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, showers and storms are expected to develop this afternoon and continue into tonight. Most areas can expect between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rainfall, with locally higher amounts possible, especially within thunderstorms.

Forecasters say the system will move out by early Wednesday morning, with improving conditions later in the day. Despite the rain, temperatures will remain mild, ranging from the mid-70s in the Southern Tier to near 80°F in some northern areas.

Drivers are urged to use caution during evening commutes as brief downpours and gusty winds may reduce visibility. Outdoor events and evening travel may also be affected by the scattered storms.

Rain chances decrease midweek, with dry and cooler weather expected to return by Thursday.
