New York, NY – A blast of Arctic air has gripped New York, bringing frigid temperatures and setting the stage for potential snow Monday night. Temperatures will remain well below freezing through Monday, with highs only reaching the lower 30s.

According to the National Weather Service, Monday evening brings a 30% chance of snow showers after 1 a.m., with the probability rising to 40% by early Tuesday morning. Residents are advised to plan for slick road conditions, especially along major thoroughfares like the Long Island Expressway and I-87. The snow is expected to taper off by midday Tuesday, as skies gradually clear and temperatures climb to a seasonable high near 40°F.

Christmas Day promises relief from the bitter cold, with mostly sunny skies and a high of 37°F. However, wind chill values will likely remain brisk throughout the morning. By Wednesday evening, clouds will return, though no precipitation is forecast.

Looking ahead, Thursday and Friday bring a warming trend, with highs in the low 40s under partly sunny skies. This respite from the cold should provide favorable conditions for holiday travel across the region.

Travelers should monitor updates closely, as shifting conditions could impact Monday night’s snowfall timing. The National Weather Service recommends preparing vehicles with winter essentials, including ice scrapers and emergency kits.
