Binghamton, NY – Snow is expected to impact much of central New York this afternoon, bringing travel delays and slippery road conditions across the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued advisories for areas including the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes, and Catskills. Accumulations of 4–6 inches are forecast, with higher amounts near Wilkes-Barre, PA, and the Pocono Mountains.

According to the NWS, snowfall will begin near noon in northeastern Pennsylvania, progressing into central New York between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Areas such as Binghamton, Elmira, and Ithaca could see 2–4 inches by early Monday, while Syracuse and Utica are expected to receive lighter amounts of 1–2 inches. Evening commutes may be hazardous, especially along major routes like I-86, I-81, and I-88.

Travelers should exercise caution as untreated roads could become icy during falling temperatures, with wind chills dropping to single digits tonight. Those driving through higher-elevation areas should prepare for reduced visibility and worsening conditions after sunset.

Looking ahead, snow showers are likely to persist into Monday morning before tapering off. Monday’s highs will hover around 18°F, with wind chills making it feel closer to -4°F. A period of bitter cold will follow through midweek, with sub-zero temperatures and wind chills as low as -25°F expected Monday night into Wednesday.

Residents are urged to limit unnecessary travel and dress warmly to prevent frostbite. Stay updated with local advisories and ensure vehicles are winter-ready. For additional details, visit weather.gov.
