Albany, NY – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for parts of northern and eastern Upstate New York until 1 a.m. Sunday, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning that freezing rain may create slick travel conditions across the region this evening.

According to NWS Albany, a light glaze to around one-tenth of an inch of ice is possible across Hamilton, Northern Saratoga, Northern Warren, Southeast Warren, and Northern Fulton counties. Communities such as Glens Falls, Saratoga Springs, North Creek, Long Lake, and Caroga Lake are included in the advisory area.

The combination of subfreezing surface temperatures and steady light precipitation will allow ice to accumulate on sidewalks, bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads. Even small amounts of freezing rain can lead to very slippery travel, particularly on elevated surfaces that freeze first.

Temperatures are expected to slowly rise overnight, reducing icing risks toward early Sunday morning as the system exits and precipitation diminishes. Until then, drivers should plan for locally hazardous conditions, especially on rural and shaded roads where ice may be difficult to detect.

NWS advises residents to slow down, allow extra distance between vehicles, and remain alert for rapidly changing pavement conditions. Pedestrians should also use caution on walkways and steps that may become coated with a thin layer of ice.

Additional updates may be issued if temperatures drop or precipitation intensity changes.
