Buffalo, NY – A winter weather advisory remains in effect across parts of upstate New York through 4 p.m. Saturday, with significant snowfall, gusty winds, and hazardous road conditions expected.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, areas including Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis counties will see 4 to 8 inches of snow, particularly in higher elevations like the Tug Hill Plateau. Lower elevations may receive 1 to 3 inches. Winds gusting up to 40 mph will contribute to blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility and complicating travel.
In Northern Oneida County, a separate advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Binghamton warns of 3 to 5 inches of snow. The heaviest snowfall is expected Friday evening, with rain mixing in overnight before transitioning back to snow on Saturday. As temperatures drop into the 20s, icy conditions are likely, particularly on bridges and overpasses.
Motorists should expect slick roads and difficult travel conditions, especially during the Friday evening commute. Officials urge drivers to slow down, exercise caution, and check 511 for the latest road conditions. Pedestrians should also be wary of icy sidewalks, stairs, and driveways.
The storm is expected to taper off by late Saturday afternoon, but residual snow and ice may continue to impact travel into the evening. Residents are encouraged to stay updated through weather alerts and local news sources.
