Binghamton, NY – A winter storm is set to impact upstate New York and northeast Pennsylvania early Thursday, bringing snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Commuters should prepare for hazardous road conditions, particularly along I-81 and I-88.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday for Broome, Delaware, and Sullivan counties in New York, as well as parts of northeast Pennsylvania. Snowfall between 1 to 2 inches is expected, with ice accumulations up to 0.10 inches. Roads, bridges, and overpasses will be slick, making travel dangerous during the morning commute.

The system will begin as snow after midnight before transitioning to a wintry mix by morning. Freezing rain and sleet will continue until early afternoon, with temperatures rising above freezing later in the day. Winds will be 5-10 mph, adding to visibility concerns.

Looking ahead, another storm system may bring additional snow Saturday night into Sunday. Residents should stay updated on changing conditions and check local road advisories. Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution on untreated surfaces.
