Binghamton, NY – Snow and high winds are expected to make travel hazardous across central New York starting tonight through early Friday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday until 4 a.m. Friday, with snow totals ranging from 3 to 5 inches and wind gusts up to 40 mph.
According to the National Weather Service, snow showers will intensify late Wednesday evening as a clipper system moves through the region. Thursday morning’s commute will likely be affected by low visibility and blowing snow, particularly along major highways, including I-81 and I-88. Drivers should use caution and plan for slippery road conditions.
The heaviest snow is expected Thursday morning between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., with patchy blowing snow continuing into Thursday night. Winds are predicted to increase throughout Thursday, with peak gusts of 40 mph, potentially reducing visibility to near zero in some areas.
Temperatures will remain below freezing, with highs reaching only 32°F on Thursday and dropping to 21°F overnight. Friday will see lingering snow showers with a high of 31°F and calmer winds.
This weekend, conditions are expected to improve, with partly sunny skies and highs reaching 41°F by Sunday. However, drivers should still exercise caution on untreated roadways as residual ice may remain.
